Rizal Tandjung burst onto the global surfing scene in 1995 as the first Indonesian surfer to make waves on the famed North Shore of Oahu. During the peak of the Hawaii’s big wave season, at 19 years old, Tandjung dropped into a monster wave at the treacherous spot known as Pipeline. He rode with such grace and aplomb that photos of this ride graced the covers of magazine’s world wide.

Since that time he has enjoyed a successful professional surfing career and has been perennially recognized as the finest, most widely known surfer South East Asia has ever produced. Despite being a successful business man throughout all his adult years, Rizal has always maintained his credibility as a top flight surfer and as Indonesia’s premiere surfing ambassador.

Now a happy family man, Tandjung still serves as the brand Ambassador/Team manager for the Hurley Surf brand and is the owner/operator of several businesses. Including the Flying Tiger Surf Shop in at Padang Padang, the Desa Limasan Retreat in Pacitan, Java and his upcoming Wishing Well Restaurant at Uluwatu.

Today, between his busy work schedule, Rizal Tandjung can be found enjoying his island lifestyle while passing the torch of Indonesian Surfing to his sons.
